BOISE - Wyatt Baldwin and Julian Washburn pitched five solid innings apiece as the Lewis-Clark Twins opened their Legion baseball season Saturday with a nonleague sweep of the Boise Capitals.
The scores were 12-2 in five innings and 5-2.
Baldwin thew a five-hitter with no walks in the shortened opener, needing just 63 pitches, and Washburn teamed with reliever Nate Savolainen for another five-hitter in the seven-frame nightcap. The Capitals loaded the bases in the seventh before Savolainen induced consecutive fly-outs from their No. 2 through 4 batters.
Baldwin "was ready to go right off the bat," Twins coach Kevin Maurer said. "We asked our (starters) to give us five strong innings, and both of them did that."
Luke White hit a two-run homer for the Twins in the opener, and Chase Adkison did the same in the second contest. Adkison finished with five hits and six RBI from the No. 9 hole, and Alex Light also had five hits.
The Capitals (5-3) couldn't capitalize on a home-field advantage or an earlier start to their season. Lewis-Clark started late so players could watch the NAIA World Series in Lewiston.
