Twin wins for L-C in first league action of summer

The Lewis-Clark Twins made an auspicious debut to their league season with back-to-back wins over the Prairie Cardinals in a doubleheader at Harris Field.

L-C won 8-4 and 10-0 in American Legion baseball games played Tuesday evening.

"Both our pitchers pitched really quality games," said Lewis-Clark coach Kevin Maurer of Danny Robinson and Riley Way, who manned the mound in the first and second games respectively.

Robinson matched Prairie's Jared Porter in pitching a no-hitter through four innings to hold off the Cardinals' offense long enough for Alex Light to hit a grand slam home run in the sixth and secure the Lewis-Clark victory - a three-run seventh for Prairie notwithstanding.

In the second game, "Our offense carried over right off the bat from that first game and we scored early," said Maurer. "Way took care of the rest."

L-C recorded nine runs within the first two innings of that contest and conceded only two hits and zero runs before winning via mercy rule in five.

Light and Chase Adkison led the team offensively on the day at three hits apiece, with Light delivering two home runs while Adkison managed a double and a triple.

The Twins, who now stand at 13-4 on the season and 2-0 in league competition, will face the River City Athletics today in a nonleague doubleheader at home.
