BOISE - Luke White crushed two home runs and the Lewis-Clark Twins barely hung on against the Pocatello Runnin' Rebels, winning 13-12 to keep their Legion season alive at the Idaho Class AA state tournament at Timberline High.
L-C's journey through the losers' bracket continues today at noon against the Boise Gems.
"We were more of ourselves today," said Twins coach Kyle Blackwell, whose club fell flat the day before in a 10-0 loss to the Boise Capitals. "More of what we've been throughout the summer and what we're capable of."
The Twins continued to struggle on the mound, conceding 12 hits and a slew of free passes. But these were mistakes L-C could afford on a day that saw the offense produce 16 hits, which included four extra-base hits.
White had a single to go with his two homers, Cole Grijalva finished with three hits including a double, while Chandler Tibbits, Josh Moore, Jaden Phillips and Danny Robinson all collected multiple base knocks.
"We'll take a 'W' on this side of the bracket any way we can get it," said Blackwell, who expects a tough test from the Gems today. "They're good. They can pitch pretty dang good."
