BOISE - Dalton Stamper held Idaho Falls to two runs long enough for the Twins to mount a sizeable enough advantage behind him, leading L-C to a 6-2 victory over the last unbeaten team at the Idaho Class AA state tournament.
"He wouldn't let me take him off the mound when he hit his pitch count," L-C coach Kyle Blackwell said of Stamper, who pitched to two outs, both strikeouts, into the eighth inning. "(He) threw a heck of a game tonight."
Now, the Twins (38-10) have a chance to avenge their opening-round loss when they face Boise at 10 a.m. PDT today. The winner will play Idaho Falls, which 10-runned Boise on Thursday, in the title game at 2 p.m. PDT.
"They're a good team, they've got college guys returning," Blackwell said of the Caps, who mercy-ruled a scoreless Twins team in six innings on Tuesday. "These next two games are gonna be battles."
L-C didn't put up much of a fight after responding to the Bandits' single run in the first innings, with Luke White hitting a solo home run in the top of the second to level the score.
"We were kind of slow starting (off)," Blackwell said, noting that immediately after White's homer the team "went dormant" for the next couple of innings.
"We left some guys stranded, too. In all reality we didn't play our best game tonight."
According to Blackwell, it came down to the final innings of the game. L-C scored five runs in the final three, "and put that force on in the seventh. I was proud of them for that."
