LC Cubs win 2 in the Duster Bowl

The Cubs won both of their games in the Duster Bowl today, beating Lakeside Recovery 11-2. They followed that up with a 7-1 win over the Southridge Bandits. They will continue play tomorrow morning. Keep up the good work! ⚾⚾

Robinson's Walkoff Single Gives LC Twins Victory Over Boys Of Summer

 The Twins took Sunday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 10-9 walk-off victory over Boys Of Summer (Bellevue). The game was tied at nine with LC Twins batting in the bottom of the tenth when Danny Robinson singled driving in one run.                

Twins earned the victory despite allowing Boys Of Summer (Bellevue) to score seven runs in the third inning. BOS took an early lead in the third inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, Boys Of Summer (Bellevue) tied things up at nine. Drew Tensen grounded out, scoring one run.

LC Twins scored eight runs in the fourth inning. LC Twins's big inning was driven by a single by R Shoults, a single by Kolt Olson, a walk by Riley Way, a walk by Luke White, and a single by Chase Adkison.

LC Twins had 16 hits in the game. White, Alex Light, Adkison, Danny Robinson, and Shoults each collected multiple hits for LC Twins. Adkison, Robinson, and White each drove in two runs to lead LC Twins. LC Twins was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.                

                   

Snohomish FTC 3, L-C Cubs 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A three-run inning proved to be the downfall for the Lewis-Clark Cubs in a Duster Bowl loss to Snohomish FTC.

Despite the loss, Lewis-Clark coach Ramon Royce said he feels as though his team is one piece away from putting together a solid run through the tournament.

"We've got a shot to win this," Royce said. "We're right there on the cusp of firing on all cylinders and putting it all together."

After falling behind, the Cubs offense rallied behind hits from Dawson Bonfield and Garrett Beckman.

"Bonfield has been out hurt with a bruised thumb, but he got some action today at first base and had a solid knock to score our first run," Royce said. "Beckman hit a ball in the third inning that bounced off the wall. I thought it was going to be a home run."

Beckman also took the bump in a relief appearance during the first inning, finishing the game for the Cubs with just over six innings of work.

"If there was one word to describe it - dazzling," Royce said. "He came in on short notice and he competed hard."

Lewis-Clark continues tournament play today at noon with a seeding game against Lakeside Recovery of Bellevue, Wash.

Twins bag pair of one-run wins

The Lewis-Clark Twins Legion baseball team has a reputation for dominant wins, but the program needed a little bit of timely hitting to snag a pair of one-run victories Saturday during the Palouse Summer Series.

Lewis-Clark downed the Washington Rush of Everett by a score of 11-10 at Harris Field before claiming a 13-12 victory against Kalispell, Mont.

"It was a pretty remarkable day," Twins coach Kevin Maurer said. "I've got a team of 16 grinders. To do what they did today, it was very exciting and it was two really great wins for our team."

Lewis-Clark (18-5) trailed Washington by a run entering the final inning of play, but the team pushed two runners across the plate to regain the lead and put pressure on the Rush.

"Chase Adkison came in to close it out and pick up the win for us," Maurer said. "That Rush team could really swing it, and they kept pace with us until that final inning."

Luke White and Colt Olson combined for six hits and two doubles in the win against Washington.

"Luke had a great day at the plate, but our team as a whole had timely hits in tough situations," Maurer said.

The Twins also trailed 12-9 heading into the final frame against Kalispell, but the offense delivered when it needed to.

Julian Washburn led off the inning with a triple and scored when Nate Savolainen doubled in the following at-bat. Jaden Phillips added another double for the Twins and Riley Way knocked in the tying run with a single.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Alex Light lined a pitch into the right-center gap for the walk-off win.

Lewis-Clark continues tournament play in the Palouse Summer Series with a semifinal matchup at noon. As of press time, the opponent had yet to be determined.

KENNEWICK - The Lewis-Clark Cubs tallied 12 hits during an offensive outburst against Lakeside Recovery of Bellevue, Wash., but the effort was not enough as the team fell in a 6-4 contest during the Duster Bowl in Kennewick.

"We definitely hit the ball well this game," Cubs coach Ramon Royce said. "We were able to mount a comeback, but we fell just short."

Lewis-Clark (6-12) carried a 1-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning, but Lakeside took advantage of several defensive miscues to post a five-run frame.

"We had a hit-by-pitch, an error and then another hit," Royce said. "We left some balls up and they capitalized on it. It seems like one inning has been haunting us, we've just got to play solid defense for seven innings rather than six."

The Cubs enjoyed a strong start from Carter Stamper, who tallied seven strikeouts and held his opponent to two walks.

"Stamper definitely gave us a shot to win that game," Royce said. "He was in balance and found the zone, but they just capitalized on some mistakes. Overall, it was his best outing of the year."

Trayton Skinner propelled Lewis-Clark at the plate with three hits in the loss.

"He gets on base and has been putting together some good quality at-bats," Royce said. "He's been working his count and being patient and getting his pitch."

The Cubs skipper said his team was not slowed down by the use of wood bats, which are a required component of the tournament.

"A bunch of guys bought some sticks, so we definitely did some extra hitting with the wood," Royce said. "It seems like we've been hitting pretty well in the Tri-Cities, so there must be something in the air."

Lewis-Clark continues tournament play today with a noon meeting against Snohomish.

Twins erupt for 23 runs in win

It may not have been the Fourth of July, but the Lewis-Clark Twins Legion baseball team provided plenty of fireworks of their own Friday night.

Lewis-Clark exploded for 18 hits in a 23-5 beatdown of the Northwest Naturals of Bellevue, Wash., during the Palouse Summer Series at Harris Field.

"The two games we played in this tournament, our bats have been alive," Twins coach Kevin Maurer said. "They put on a special showing in front of their fans. We had six doubles today to go along with a triple and a home run, so when guys are getting extra-base hits like that, it means we're squaring up the ball and finding gaps."

Infielder Riley Way sparked Lewis-Clark (16-5) with four hits on the day, including three doubles. Colton Olson also added a trio of base knocks, while Chris Powell and Luke White both went deep in the mercy-rule win.

"Riley's been working on his swing and taking some extra hacks, and today it finally showed in the batter's box," Maurer said. "He hit a ball in the gap and up the middle, he spread it all around. Coming from our leadoff man, that triggers the rest of the guys in the lineup."

The Twins skipper said starting pitcher Cooper Lund initially struggled to find the zone, but he was able to escape two bases-loaded jams during his outing.

"His pitch count ran a litle high, so we had to take him out in the fourth," Maurer said. "But he was able to manage those tight situations and get out of them."

The Twins almost ended the game in the fifth with an 11-2 lead, but the Naturals scored three runs to claw back into contention. The following inning, Lewis-Clark posted an 11-run frame to secure the mercy-rule win.

"We got an extra opportunity to bat, and our guys love to swing it," Maurer said. "They definitely took advantage of it."

The Twins continue tournament play today with a pair of afternoon games. Lewis-Clark battles the Washington Rush of Evertee in a 4 p.m. meeting before taking on the Kalispell Lakers of Montana in the 7 p.m. nightcap.

"We saw a little bit of the Rush today, and it looks like they're a pretty good team that can swing it," Maurer said.
